Jurisdiction is a legal principle which provides for the authority and power of an entity to consider, act on, and provide a disposition in a legal matter. Jurisdiction is critical in the consideration of any action that is taken in criminal law and civil law. For our purposes, we will only be considering the issue of jurisdiction as it relates to violations of the criminal law.
